Mourning Doves
Or,
maybe I should say "Morning Doves". Every morning, a pair of doves comes to the feeder outside the kitchen window on the south side of the house.
They are beautiful with their tan-shot-with-iridescence feathers. They are peaceful, yet shy and wild, and they make
me smile every time I see them. In the early evening, they come again to eat the small seeds that have fallen
on the ground from the messier regular visitors. I guess a lot of my fascination with this pair is that I have never
even heard of mourning doves coming to a feeder. I believe these are the same pair I've seen for a couple
of years now. They have been in the more open areas of the woods behind our house, near the storage shed. I guess
now they realize that we will not harm them and that there is a tasty free meal closer to the house. I hope they
stick around and that they teach their offspring that Hilton House is a good place to stay.
